Peter Hawker diaries, 1795-1853.

34 manuscript diaries containing details of Hawker's hunting trips, complete with lists of birds and small animals he shot, and various entries about travel and daily life. Variant titles are found in the volumes, the first inscribed: "A List of the Birds &c Shot by P. Hawker, who began to shoote at 9 years old" and containing feathers pressed between pages and a painting of birds pasted on the first leaf. The remaining volumes are numbered sequentially beginning with Volume I: "Memorandums of shooting, fishing & other Sports (& of my Journal from place to place)".

David Wagstaff was born in 1882. He received his B.A. from Harvard in 1905, and worked as a partner in the New York City brokerage firm of Dominick & Dominick from 1915-1929. An avid sportsman, he collected sporting books, paintings, and prints, many of which he later donated to the University of Virginia and to Yale University.
